BLUE LINE FAQ

Frequent questions

Tap sprayer

ARE THEY SUITABLE FOR ANY TAP?

A: They are applicable to all threaded taps: 22×1 male (external) and 24×1 female (internal)

MY SPOUT IS SQUARED WITH A SMALL RING YOU CAN UNSCREW: IN THIS SPECIFIC CASE MAYBE ADAPTABLE TO ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS!?

A: It’s very likely. You need to unscrew it and check if the thread is standard, which is possible likewise.

DO TAP SPRAYERS NEED MAINTENANCE? ARE THEY EFFECTIVE AGAINST LIMESCALE?

A: The function of any tap sprayer is to eliminate splashes but not the limescale present in the water. The Siroflex aerator-shower tap sprayers stand out from the many ugly imitations on the market for the effectiveness of the aerator/shower, for the handling, for the wide variety of models and their design as for its stainless steel screen washer. Another feature is the very long life span due to the use of high-quality materials. In particular, acetal resin is resistant to limescale build-up, but does not eliminate it. It is sufficient to unscrew the tap sprayer head and soak it in vinegar or in a descaling product for a few hours and then brush away the limescale residues; in this way our tap sprayer will be as good as new even after years of use. It is always a good practice to periodically unscrew the head and rinse the screen washer which retains the solid impurities present in the water, preserving the item from clogging.

HOW LONG HAVE SIROFLEX ITEMS BEEN ON THE MARKET? JUST IN ITALY OR ANYWHERE ELSE?

A: Siroflex has been on the market since 1963, with products for house and garden. We are not only in Italy, but all over the world.

The Siroflex tap sprayer with 2 functions (aerator + shower) was born more than 40 years ago from one of our patents and has been renewed over time in terms of design and ergonomics, always distinguishing itself from the many current imitations. The Saturn tap sprayer is the latest addition to the wide range of models that Siroflex offers to users. We can proudly say that, after many years and tests done by millions of people around the world, they have been perfectly working.

ON THE MARKET THERE ARE VERY CHEAP TAP SPRAYERS. WHY SHOULD I BUY A SIROFLEX TAP SPRAYER?

A: “There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man’s lawful prey” (John Ruskin).

For more than 40 years, the large family of Siroflex tap sprayers and hoses has been constantly updated and distributed at the best hardware stores in Italy and appreciated by millions of consumers worldwide. Everyone is free to buy, dress and eat according to the quality they consider most appropriate, completely neglecting the value for money: spend less by buying a poor product (most often imported), but its operation is poor or even worse, it doesn’t work or it breaks down immediately and you have to buy it again. Besides, pay attention to those products that are only packaged and not produced in Italy which display the false wording “Made in Italy". The Siroflex brand has existed since 1963 and it is internationally registered in over 40 countries. The women and men who work in Siroflex live and produce in Italy and are proud to see the fruit of their commitment appreciated throughout the world.

HOW MANY YEARS DOES A SIROFLEX TAP SPRAYER LAST?

A:  We personally test and use our tap sprayer; that’s why we know their life span very well, which is more than ten years. Having said that, there is no material on which the water flow does not leave deposits (especially the most calcareous one). The acetal resin we use certainly resists to a greater extent. However, when the limestone is deposited, simply unscrew the tap sprayer head, soak it in vinegar or in a descaling product for a few hours, brush off the residues and it will be as good as new. When you use poor quality tap sprayer, the aerator becomes clogged because blocked by solid impurities present in the water. These impurities can be retained by the special stainless steel screen washer, which we wisely insert in all our products.

I BOUGHT YOUR TAP SPRAYER, BUT ONCE SCREWED WITH THE ADJUSTABLE PLIERS THERE IS STILL LEAKAGE.

Tap sprayer hoses

I BOUGHT A “MILADY” LONG AERATOR-SHOWER BUT ONCE CONNECTED TO THE TAP IT SPRAYS WATER EVERYWHERE. WHAT CAN I DO? IS IT FLAWED?

A:  It is unlikely seen as a flaw. It can sometimes happen that the tap thread is not long enough to reach the screenwasher inserted in the hose upper end; unfortunately in this case the right tightness is not guaranteed, with a water infiltration between the internal rubber hose and the flexible hose. Therefore it is sufficient to insert the provided washer underneath the screenwasher (if you don’t want to use the membrane water-saver).

Same situation when you need an adaptor to fix an item to a female thread tap. Even in this case a proper tightness is guaranteed by the above mentioned procedure.

We would like to highlight a common mistake: solving the missing tightness with an harmful and useless nut tightening on the threaded tap. In all likelihood the thread gets stripped. Only the membrane water-saver or the alternative washer can guarantee a safe tightness.

Siroflex will be at your disposal in any case.

I WOULD LIKE TO BUY YOUR CHROMED TAP SPRAYER HOSE, BUT MY WATER TAP IS TOO LOW. WHAT CAN I DO?

A: This model is very valid, produced exclusively by Siroflex and characterized by a particular ergonomics and wide range of action. Anyway if our 11 cm hose with swivel is too long for your sink tap and does not solve your problem, consider the several models of tap sprayer with single or double swivel. They guarantee extreme handling and are only a few cm long. Siroflex has been a world leader in this sector for over 50 years and it offers, in addition to the quality of its products, all solutions to this type of problem, including the possibility of a great water savings ensured by tap sprayer versions with a water saver included. Thanks to our motto “Save the Blue Gold” Siroflex has been promoting awareness of saving water for years.

I HAVE BOUGHT A FLEXIBLE HOSE BUT IT LEAKS EVERYHERE. I HAVE SEEN A SIMILAR MODEL ON YOUR WEBSITE. WHICH WARRANTIES CAN YOU OFFER WITHOUT HAVING THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEM?

A: We sincerely thank you for this question because it allows us to underline the high quality of our products and, in this particular case, about the “Milady" model. It is equipped with our “aerator-shower" tap sprayer which has, in its latest “Sirius" version, the two functions of our tap sprayers with a new and elegant design.

Siroflex “aerator – shower” tap sprayers offer the advantages of the “aerator" (water and air, appropriately mixed, generate a smooth and velvety flow, eliminating splashes which are particularly annoying when the pressure is high) and an effective “shower".

Furthermore, it is essential to underline the high quality of the chromed-brass hose that characterizes and distinguishes our “Milady” from similar products, very often imported and fraudulently marked as “Made in Italy”.

Our double-interlock hose ensures an high quality thanks also to the special characteristics of the two chromed- brass flexible hose ends. The result is a solid, soft and smart product, equipped with a water saver membrane and with a great value for money. Purchase the product with no worries: it will last forever. If you wish to buy other Siroflex Blue Line products, beware of imitations!

ONCE INSTALLED THE MILADY MODEL, THERE IS A WATER LEAKAGE FROM THE FLEXIBLE HOSE.

A: In the rare cases of water leakage, this occurs not because of a defect in the article. The length of the tap male thread doesn’t reach the screenwasher placed inside the upper end of the Milady.  Same problem in case of a tap with a female thread when using the specific adapter.

In both cases it is sufficient to use the additional washer supplied, placing it under the screenwasher.

With the Milady model, the right tightening is guaranteed even when using the supplied water saver membrane.

ON THE MARKET, A LOT OF TAP SPRAYER HOSES ARE MORE ECONOMICAL THAN YOURS. WHY SHOULD I BUY THIS ONE?

About cheap tap sprayer hoses, things have seen in two different ways: we have got sellers who say that they perfectly work, but also buyers who say they work badly or even worse, they are broken.

This is a Made in Italy product. The weight of Milady is 73g while the similar ones range from 45 to 55g. The hose brass quantity represents an important element, to which we must add the quality of the materials (harmfulness), the quality of the chromium plating and the quality of the workmanship. The Milady hose is a guaranteed italian production. The hose ends are in brass, with the original Siroflex design. Competitors ones are in chromed plastic. The Made in Italy quality of Siroflex has an unequal duration. So pay attention to the “swindlers".

Hair-wash shower

I HAVE PURCHASED YOUR HAIR-WASH SHOWER BUT WHEN I RELEASE THE TRIGGER, WATER STILL COMES OUT. THE RETAILER TOLD ME IT IS A SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTIC OF THE PRODUCT. IS IT TRUE OR AN ITEM DEFECT AND THE RETAILER DOESN’T WANT TO REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE?

What the retailer told you was correct. Our “Micronette Regal” hair-wash showers have a partial shut-off valve which avoids a change of the water temperature after soaping. The little water outflow, even when the valve is closed, is not a product flaw but rather a technical precaution to avoid having a hot water infiltration in the cold one.

When you pull the trigger it is advisable to check the water temperature before directing the flow to the body.

Shower heads in chromed abs

HOW CAN I REMOVE THE LIMESCALE FROM THE SHOWER HEAD?

A: Limescale is a common problem for all items that come into contact with it: obviously, the more water consists of limescale, the sooner scaling will form. However, the care in the construction and the choice of first quality materials can make the difference.

In particular, the acetal resin, which we use for our shower heads, resists to limescale build-up more than other materials, but does not eliminate it. When you notice an irregular water flow, just unscrew the shower head and soak it in vinegar or in a descaling product for a few hours, then brush off the residues: in this way it will return as new, even after years of use. In addition, it is always good practice to periodically unscrew the shower head and rinse the stainless steel screenwasher, which retains the solid impurities present in the water and preserves the shower head from clogging. The water jet will be smooth again.

Besides, our shower heads have an excellent value for money compared to the competitors ones and they don’t have the metal oxidation problem, guaranteeing superior functional performance. The essential design excludes that the full functionality of the shower head is “sacrificed" for purely aesthetic reasons.

ARE THEY SUITABLE FOR ALL KIND OF SHOWERS? IN THE PAST I BOUGHT DIFFERENT SHOWER HEADS, BUT THEY WEREN’T GOOD.

A: The shower head has a brass swivel with a half-inch female thread; these are the standard sizes of the shower arms and bath mixer. If you have already had problems in the past, we recommend you checking the diameter of your mixer. Only in this way you will be sure of the compatibility with the shower head.

Bidet shower & toilet hydro jet

WHAT ABOUT SPURTS? THEY CONTAIN FAECAL BACTERIA!

A: Thanks for your observation, which allow us to clarify the following.

Topics are two: toilet bowl cleaning and personal hygiene.

TOILET BOWL CLEANING

Unlike the monofunction toilet hydro jets on market, our article allows, by pulling forward the head outer collar, two different flows:

anti-splash aerator

toilet hydro jet

In this way it is possible to do a safe and accurate cleaning, using the aerator for first and then the toilet hydro jet.

PERSONAL HYGIENE

The aerator function, thanks to the smooth and velvety jet, allows a perfect personal hygiene. In this regard it is good to specify that the hygienic conditions are safeguarded because, during the toilet cleaning, the article has to be used at a minimum 50-70 cm range.

Our article is useful for personal hygiene in all bathrooms without a bidet; some of our customers use it even when travelling (there is a special “travel kit" version), but it is also useful for people with a reduced mobility or if they are discouraged from an uncomfortable sitting position (for example after a hip arthroplasty surgery). In this regard, just look at how services for disabled people are equipped.

AFTER A TEMPORARY FLOW INTERRUPTION I HAVE NOTICED THAT, ONCE THE TRIGGER WAS PULLED AGAIN, THE FOLLOWING FLOW HAD A HIGHER TEMPERATURE

A: Sure. The higher temperature is due to the total shut-off, which is required on how this item is used. Anytime you pull the trigger, check the water flow temperature with your hand before directing it to the body. You always have to turn off the main tap after use.

IS IT SUITABLE FOR ALL KIND OF TAPS?

A: The bidet shower & toilet hydro jet is offered in two versions:

The model equipped with Siroflex quick connector and tap sprayer (art. 2013/2S) is applicable to almost all taps (standard external and internal threads: 22x1M male – 24x1M female). It is sufficient to unscrew the aerator of which are normally equipped with taps to proceed with installation, screwing the quick connector to the tap. The connection is simple and quick. Thanks to the quick connector you can alternate the use of the supplied tap sprayer with the bidet shower & toilet hydro jet one.

For taps without thread and for a greater connection versatility, Siroflex also offers the Travel Kit (Art.2011/ 2S) equipped with a rubber tap adaptor with steel clamp. In this way, the almost universality of use is guaranteed, since it is not possible to completely exclude the problems deriving from taps with particular and unusual shapes. If you want to continue using this model for a standard use, you need to remove the rubber tap adaptor.

WHAT IS A QUICK CONNECTOR FOR? IS IT DIFFICULT TO FIX?

A: No, it is just a question of removing the aerator and replacing it with the quick connector. Once fixed, the quick connector can alternate the shower and the tap sprayer use very quickly.

WHICH KIND OF PROBLEMS CAN HAPPEN WITH THE MALE/FEMALE HOUSE TAP THREADS?

A: The house tap threads are measured in millimeter. The female thread usually has a diameter of 24mm (24x1millimetric female thread); in fact our article includes an adapter 22 × 1 millimetric male-24 × 1 millimetric male for the application of our quick connector. Any non-standard situations (which rarely occur) do not concern the type of thread but simply the female or male diameter. For greater safety, therefore, it is necessary to accurately measure the diameter and, if necessary, buy the relative adapter from a specialised dealer.

HOW LONG IS THE HOSE?

A: The bidet shower hose is 2 meters long.

Kit for house

WHICH IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR HANDSHOWER AND THE OTHERS ON MARKET?

A: Siroflex produces handshowers for bathroom mixers. With a simple connection to the washbasin tap, this kit is useful when you need to wash your hair if you don’t have a shower. The handshower (provided with the kit) has a total shut-off; this closure causes a water temperature change when the water flow resumes after an interruption. It is advisable to always check the water temperature with your hand before directing it to the body, in order to avoid possible scalds.

Always turn off the main tap after use.

I HAVE NOTICED THERE ARE MANY PIECES IN THE KIT…. WHAT DO I NEED THEM FOR?

A: This kit solves the connection problem between the handshower and the wasbasin or sink tap. It is equipped with a quick connector to be screwed on the tap.

In the quick connector you can alternatively fit the tap sprayer (for a normal tap use) or the equipped shower hose for the handshower use. In addition to this, there is also a male coupling for the connection with the washing machine or dishwasher inlet hose.

About the handshower (which has a total shut-off), anytime you pull the trigger check the water temperature with your hand before directing it to the body. Always turn off the main tap after use.

Water filter

WHAT IS A WATER FILTER FOR?

A: It eliminates chlorine and its derivatives, retaining the solid impurities of the water supplied by your water aqueduct. It therefore makes its taste pleasant and, in the case of the cartridge with a blend of activated carbon and resin, it eliminates the excess of limestone. UNI 3 water filters effectively maintain this feature. We have been producing and distributing water filters for more than 30 years on national and international markets with full recognition made by consumers.

WHY DOESN’T YOUR DEVICE INCLUDE A WATERMETER?

A: Because water liters cannot give a certain indication of the water filter duration, as the quantity of chlorine varies from water aqueduct to water aqueduct and from season to season. This is the reason why Siroflex has avoided equipping water filters with a watermeter, which would be unnecessarily expensive. The indication of three months duration has been determined on average values and sticking the label with the expiry date is useful for replacement. However, when the cartridge function is over, nothing serious happens: when you taste the chlorine again it’s time to replace the cartridge. A pack of 4 cartridges is, on average, one year’s supply.

DURING THE WATER FILTER SETTING-UP I HAVE NOTICED A LEAKAGE FROM THE METAL NUT SCREWED ON THE TAP. IS IT A DEFECT OR MY FIXING MISTAKE?

A: We want to thank you for your warning which allows us an important clarification on that. Your tap connection problem is not caused by our item defect. It can sometimes happen that the tap thread is not long enough to reach the screenwasher inserted in the brass nut; unfortunately this cannot guarantee the right tightness. In this case it is sufficient to insert the additional washer underneath the screenwasher (if you don’t want to use the membrane water-saver).

Same situation when you need an adaptor to fix an item to a female thread tap. Even in this case a proper tightness is guaranteed by the above mentioned procedure.

We would like to highlight a common mistake: solving the missing tightness with an harmful and useless nut tightening on the threaded tap; in the best case the thread gets stripped. Only the membrane water-saver or the alternative washer can guarantee a safe tightness.

ARE THE UNI 3 WATER FILTERS ALSO RECOMMENDED TO ELIMINATE THE LIMESCALE?

A: Thanks for your concern. If you use a CARTRIDGE WITH A BLEND OF CARBON AND RESIN, it reduces the water hardness. For more information, check our web page “water filters”.

WHY DOES THE FIRST WATER FLOW COMING FROM THE FILTER HAVE A DARK COLOUR?

A: This worry only occurs when you don’t read the instructions carefully. It is clearly indicated that “The first time you use either the water filter or a new cartridge, it is necessary to wash the active carbon by running at least two litres of water".

The dark colour of the first water flow is caused by the active carbon fine dust present in the cartridge.

For this reason consider that the active carbon is used in the aqueducts for the water filtering, which is subject to a chlorination before being delivered.

Nothing harmful to health, indeed.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF FIXING A WATER FILTER TO THE TAP IF THE AQUEDUCT WATER IS GOOD?

A: It is very useful when you want to drink water from the tap, but annoyed by the taste of chlorine. Therefore, the characteristics of the water supplied from your water aqueduct remain so, except for the elimination of the bad taste of chlorine and the solid impurities that sediment in the pipes.

CAN I USE THE B-TYPE TO FILL THE AQUARIUM?

A: Decalcified waters with resins are not usually recommended for aquariums, therefore not even those obtained with our filters.

IF YOU SAY THAT ACQUEDUCTS COMPANIES SUPPLY A GOOD QUALITY OF WATER, WHY DO I HAVE TO BUY THIS ITEM?

A: Since chlorination is the system used for the disinfection of water intended for human consumption, one of its problem is the formation of “chloro-compounds", known to release bad smells and flavours to the potable water. The UNI 3 A Classic and Silver water filters resolve the above-mentioned problems, while in the B version (Water filter + Water Softener) they reduce, in addition,  the limescale.

OUR DOMESTIC WATER IS SUPERCONTAMINATED! IT’S BETTER TO USE BOTTLES!

A: In fact, our article is not a purifier, but, as required by law, “a domestic appliance for the treatment of drinking water". Therefore, do not use it with polluted water. We thank you for giving us the opportunity for this clarification.

IS THE “SHOWER” FUNCTION AVAILABLE?

A: All the Uni 3 water filters have three functions: water filter, aerator and shower, well illustrated on our website to the relative section. To obtain the shower stream it is sufficient to pull down the outer collar.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

A: The device life span is almost unlimited (some items have lasted for 20-25 years). The duration of the filter cartridges, obviously subject to the characteristics and quantity of the water to be filtered, must not exceed three months. For this purpose it is advisable to indicate the expiry date on the appropriate label to be applied on the cartridge.

For more information, visit our website to the dedicated page.

HOW DO THESE PURIFIERS WORK?

A: We thank you for the question, with a clarification on that. First of all: attention please! There is no item which can be advertised or sold with the “water purifier” heading. This is clearly established by the legislation concerning the equipment for the water treatment for human consumption.

In addition to this, the word “purifier" is referred to the treatment of wastewater: that’s saying something! According to the technical provisions established by law, our UNI 3 product is defined as “domestic appliance for drinking water treatment".

Similar products not defined in this way are not in line with the legislation. In more detail UNI3 water filter combines two mechanical filters, which retain most of the solid impurities from potable waters, to the active carbon which absorbs and eliminates bad smells and flavours.

YOU DO NOT CHOOSE THE WATER ONLY FOR THE FLAVOUR….

A: Of course! Many italian water companies publish the chemical-physical analyses of the water supplied and it is possible they sometimes do not correspond to the particular needs of the user.

However, it is right to point out that the domestic use of water also includes the cooking and that, except for the bottled water use, is always preferable to eliminate chlorine, its derivatives and impurities.

Unfortunately, even bottled water have its problems, as highlighted by some recent judgements concerning the conservation methods.

THEY SAY WATER FROM AQUEDUCTS IS GOOD EVEN WHEN YELLOW. SHOULDN’T IT BE ODOURLESS, COLOURLESS AND TASTELESS?

Good question for an essential clarification.

Italian water companies supply good quality water on average. But it is also true that some of them do not respect this standard. If the water supplied in the aqueducts is not potable, unfortunately, NO DEVICE FOR DOMESTIC USE can solve this problem.

In fact, the following clarifications are required:

    •  UNI 3 Siroflex is an “appliance for domestic use for the treatment of drinking water”
      •  It is neither a potabiliser nor a purifier (words forbidden by law for these kind of devices)
      •  It eliminates the smell and taste of chlorine and retains solid impurities

BY USING A NEW CARTRIDGE, I HAVE NOTICED THAT DARK WATER HASN’T COME OUT AS THE FIRST TIME WITH THE FIRST CARTRIDGE. WHY DID IT HAPPEN? MAYBE BECAUSE THE CARTRIDGE IS DEFECTIVE OR EVEN WORSE HAS BEEN ALREADY USED!?

A: We thank you for this question because we can clarify some misunderstandings about this topic.

Any dark colour of the first water coming out of the filter occurs because of the active carbon dust present in the cartridge. The presence of such dust is completely accidental, representing neither a positive nor a negative element.

During the installation some users find this fact as a warning, but it’s not at all. As indicated in the instructions: “The first time you use either the water filter or a new cartridge, you need to wash the carbon by running at least two litres of water".

The presence of the active carbon dust in the cartridge is therefore a false problem. In fact the active carbon is anything but harmful. It is used in the aqueducts for the water filtering, added with chlorine before being delivered.

Other users, as in your case, are worried for the opposite reason: the water coming out of the cartridge is immediately limpid. Even in this case the washing must be done “by running a couple of water litres", but it does not mean that the cartridge is empty or used.

It simply means that the active carbon inside the cartridge does not show any trace of dust, which can sometimes be present and sometimes not, with no repercussions on the good operation of the filter cartridge.
